Reliable transportation is essential for getting to work, accessing health care, supporting children, and meeting daily needs. Keep ME Moving helps ALICE households overcome unexpected transportation setbacks before they become larger financial challenges.

Keep ME Moving provides emergency assistance for eligible households facing urgent needs, including vehicle repairs, public transportation costs, and driver’s education expenses. By responding quickly, Keep ME Moving helps people stay connected to work, school, child care, medical appointments, and other essential services.

Working with cross-sector community partners across Maine, the program uses a streamlined process to ensure help reaches people when they need it most. By providing timely support when unexpected transportation challenges arise, Keep ME Moving helps prevent short-term setbacks from disrupting work, school, health care access, and other critical aspects of daily life.

FAQs

Applicants must be referred to Keep ME Moving from one of United Way of Southern Maine’s community partners or employer partners.

Applicants must be:

  • within the ALICE income threshold.
    • You can check income eligibility HERE.
  • have a transportation need related to:
    • Medical, dental, or mental health appointments.
    • Work or educational opportunity.
    • Child care or school.
    • Basic needs, such as groceries or pharmacy.
  • Be a resident of York or Cumberland County.

If you are an approved United Way Keep ME Moving community partner, you can either help your client complete the application or have them complete it independently. You are encouraged to check if funds are currently available by emailing KMM@uwsme.org.

Yes! Limited funds will be available each month, available on a first come, first served basis. When funds are depleted, the application will close. If an applicant is denied assistance due to a lack of available funds, they may reapply in a future month. 

If your application was denied due to a lack of available funds, you are invited to apply in a future month. If you were denied because you were determined to be ineligible for the program, we encourage you to call 211 to learn what other supports might be available to you.

You can make a donation on the United Way of Southern Maine donation page and select “Keep ME Moving” in the “How would you like to direct your gift?” drop-down.
