PLANT TULIPS AND SPREAD HOPE
Join The Yellow Tulip Project (YTP) at the Third Annual Community Hope Garden Planting Ceremony on Sunday, October 14 in Portland’s Longfellow Square at 10am. Plant a bulb, smash the stigma around mental illness, and bring hope. There will be music, speeches, tulip bulb planting, and community building. EXPLORE THE MOON WITH THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUD OF MAINE
Mentors are needed to support Exploration Station, Boys and Girls Club STEM program for club members grades 1-4. Members will be paired with 1-2 mentors to explore this year’s science theme, Mission Moon. Volunteers meet for one hour each week for 12 weeks beginning in October. The final session is the Expo and lasts for two hours. Patience and enthusiasm are the only requirements. No previous technology or teaching experience is needed. ANALYZE AND CODE FOCUS GROUP TRANSCRIPTS
United Way of Greater Portland is looking for volunteer data analysts to help with an education-related project. Volunteers will code and analyze transcripts from focus group discussions in order to identify gaps and assist with identifying strategies to best reach the Thrive2027 goals. Volunteers will attend a 2-hour training including how to use the Dedoose platform to code data. In addition, volunteers will spend roughly 8-10 hours coding transcripts. Scheduling is flexible within a 3-4 week period. Volunteers must have access to a personal computer and work can be done at home. For more information, contact Karen at kstephenson@unitedwaygp.org.
PACK FOOD FOR MEALS ON WHEELS IN WINDHAM
Southern Maine Agency on Aging seeks volunteers every Thursday in the kitchen at 124 Tandberg Trail in Windham to assist with packing and preparing the food that is delivered to local Meals on Wheels clients. These volunteers can also be spare Meals on Wheels drivers, but that is not required. This is a unique opportunity to be involved with a different aspect of the Meals on Wheels Program!
