UWGP and KeyBank Offer Free Tax Preparation Services on Super Refund Saturday

United Way of Greater Portland and KeyBank Offer Free Tax Preparation Services on Super Refund Saturday, February 8

United Way of Greater Portland (UWGP) ‘s CA$H Program is holding its Super Refund Saturday tax preparation day on Saturday, February 8 from 9:00am-3:00pm at Greater Portland Council of Governments, 970 Baxter Blvd #201, Portland sponsored by KeyBank. Hundreds of individuals and families are expected to attend and receive free tax preparation assistance from KeyBank employees and other volunteers trained by CA$H.

Super Refund Saturday provides low-income individuals and families whose income is less than $54,884 and who may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) an opportunity to get their taxes done professionally at no cost and eliminate potential confusion about the filing process. In addition, eligible filers are assisted with applications for the EITC, greatly reducing poverty for working families. EITC benefits roughly 16 million people, including up to 8 million children, out of poverty or closer living at or close to the poverty line each year.

“KeyBank employees have been volunteering at Super Refund Saturday tax preparation events across the country for the past 15 years”, said Tatia Gagnon, project leader for KeyBank’s Super Refund Saturday efforts in Portland. “Key’s Financial Wellness focus includes helping people discover all the tax credits they are due and making the filing process as easy as possible.”

CA$H helps working individuals and families plan for their financial health in three important ways; 1) CA$H provides trained volunteers to help prepare taxes for free, 2) CA$H helps individuals apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and receive up to $4,536 in additional cash back and 3) CA$H helps participants manage, budget and leverage their money to achieve goals such as buying a home, going back to school, starting a small business or even creating an emergency fund.

CA$H Greater Portland is a partnership of community non- and for-profit partners working together to help empower individuals and families to achieve long-term financial stability. Since 2004, CA$H Greater Portland has offered free tax preparation to qualified filers during tax season, helped employers bring financial education tools to their employees, and educated hard-working families and individuals about programs in the community that can increase their income, reduce debt, and builds savings. CA$H is a year-round resource, providing outreach and education about ways you can make the most of your money.
