CELEBRATE DR. SEUSS’S BIRTHDAY AND READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY BY READING TO KIDS

Share your love of books and Dr. Seuss by reading to a classroom for an hour on Friday, March 2. Volunteers will read a book (either their own or provided by the teacher) and participate in a related activity. Several local schools and organizations in Westbrook and Portland are involved. VOLUNTEER AT MAINE AUDUBON’S WINTER CARNIVAL

Volunteer at Maine Audubon on Saturday, February 17 to support their Winter Carnival at Gisland Farm in Falmouth. Volunteers would help out in up to three hour shifts between 9am-3pm. For more information, contact Annica at volunteer@maineaudubon.org.

SIGN UP TO READ WITH A WESTBROOK KINDERGARTEN OR FIRST GRADE STUDENT

Read with Me is a community-based initiative, sponsored by The Westbrook Children’s Project, that matches caring reading mentors with every kindergarten and first grade student in Westbrook. Volunteers read aloud to one or two students at their school every week for 20-30 minute sessions. Training and books are provided. Read with Me will launch Monday, March 12 and conclude on June 4. SIGN UP TO WARM MEALS OR BE A PHONE PAL FOR A MEALS ON WHEELS RECIPIENT

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will host a training session for volunteers interested in becoming Phone Pals or members of Warming Crews serving those receiving Meals on Wheels deliveries in Cumberland and York counties. The training will take place from 9am-12pm on Wednesday, February 28 at the Southern Maine Agency on Aging, 132 U.S. Route One in Scarborough. Phone Pals commit to telephoning house bound Meals on Wheels recipients regularly, and Warming Crew members visit those receiving Meals on Wheels to assist with the heating of meals.
