Housing Crisis Response Fund

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. For many in Southern Maine, that reality is out of reach. We have all seen and felt the impacts of the housing crisis. Too many neighbors do not have stable housing or are one emergency away from losing their housing, like the 38% percent of households in Southern Maine who struggle to cover the cost of necessities.

We must take action to keep our neighbors safe, warm, and sheltered.

United Way of Southern Maine is launching the Housing Crisis Response Fund to ensure that more of our neighbors have a safe place to call home. This fund will directly support essential community services in Southern Maine that:

  • Address urgent and critical needs for families and individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness;
  • Provide housing with supportive services so people can succeed as they move from homelessness to housing; and
  • Support vulnerable communities, including children, older adults, and survivors of domestic abuse.

Give support

Your support is not only working to help people in the short term; it is giving people the foundations to build a better, healthier life.

To make a corporate donation to the Housing Crisis Response Fund, please reach out to your organization’s Corporate Engagement contact or email info@uwsme.org.

Donations to the Housing Crisis Response Fund will be distributed through United Way of Southern Maine’s FY25 Community Investment Process to programs and initiatives that support Thrive2027 Goal strategies 2.21 and 2.22.

The Community Investment process is a volunteer-led review process. Volunteers are involved in each step of the grant cycle timeline from identifying priority strategies, to reviews and recommendations, and all the way through to final Board approval. United Way staff support this process, but do not make funding recommendations.
