Emily Rines

What is your role at UWSM? I am the Health Community Impact Director and staff to Thrive 2027 Goal 3. I attended the University of South Carolina, School of Public Health and have spent the last 20 years working to promote and support healthy communities in South Carolina and Maine. At United Way of Southern Maine, we do that by working to meet people where they are to increase access to mental health and substance use prevention and treatment services.

What’s your favorite work moment so far? My favorite work moment happens every year when I get to participate in the decision-making process. It is inspiring to work with Thrive2027 cabinet members and community volunteers as they work through the process and make grant decisions.

How do you take your coffee? Mostly decaf and mostly black.

What’s your favorite book? “To Kill a Mocking Bird”

What’s on your bucket list? To drive across the US.
