WOMEN UNITED: LEADING THE CHARGE. INSPIRING THE CHANGE.

Women United, is committed to investing in two-generation strategies to advance single mothers and their children in East Bayside. In recent months we have explored the neighborhood, identified needs in the community, heard from experts, and learned about effective strategies to improve lives. Now, Women United is getting to work!

Women United is thrilled to announce that our Steering Committee recently voted to approve a $10,000 investment in a collaborative project between Portland Housing Authority (PHA) and Portland Adult Education (PAE).

The project will identify a group of single moms who are East Bayside residents of Portland Housing Authority. That group will complete a needs assessment, which will give us information on some of the barriers and challenges these moms experience. A coordinator will develop a support group for the moms and work individually with them to create an education and/or employment plan. Women United members will be volunteering on 9/28 to support the project’s first event: a Bayside Moms Family Dinner. Volunteers will be making jewelry with children while the moms meet with the project coordinator.

RFP: Women United recently formed an Investing Committee responsible for evaluating and selecting all future Women United investments. The committee released an RFP (Request for Proposals) for up to $100,000 in funding. We will be looking for programs that are: two-generation, collaborative, focus on single moms and their children in East Bayside, and have a proposed strategy for engaging Women United members.
